<HTML>Hi Claire,
All I am saying is that Chris is entitled to voice his opinion on such matters and that I happen to agree with his stated views. Examples of science being co-opted to provide a fig leaf of respecatability to the ideas of alternative writers are legion.
As an aside, what I find outragous is the way in which Chris's post has been used as an excuse for a right wing, knee-jerk Daily Mail inspired pop at the BBC.
Does anyone really think that programmes of the quality of Horizon would be produced at all without the license fee? A few pounds a month is a small price to pay for two quality terrestrial TV channels, a swathe of National, regional and local radio stations (all advert free btw) as well as a world renowned news and current affairs service, publishing, the Scottissh Symphony Orchestra etc, etc.
Without the license feem we would have wall to wall channel five between the ad breaks and would have to rely upon the likes of Rupert Murdoch for our news.
Sorry for veering off topic but you did ask. ;-)
Regards,
Derek</HTML>
