I haven't nailed down the location of the pool in the story of the wax crocodile. I have interpreted it thus far as simply "the area beneath the horizon" thus far. However, it may be the pool is more significant. I will turn to pp 182-183 of Lull and Belmonte where he speaks of a Mesopotamian origin

Hi Alex,
I am working on an update to the paper which I will publish in the next week or so. I think you are referring to the Sothic Cycle dates. Below I have calculated from a Baseline of 16 July (Julian) per Schaefer's "The Heliacal Rise of Sirius and Ancient Egyptian Chronology". Years are in BCE. The scene seems to occur in late November / early December which would deliver

Thanks Alex. Due to a number of factors, I realised an error in my interpretation of the Westcar Papyrus which pushes the scene I interpret into December which now aligns more closely with your dates.

I have made an error in the constellation map. If I look at the map so far, we have:
Story 2 - Ubainer and the Wax Crocodile
Wax Crocodile - Leo Minor
Large Crocodile - Hydra
Villager - Possibly Gemini
Story 3 - Sneferu and the Rowing Trip
The boat - Argo
The rowers - Crux
Fish Pendant - Piscis Austrinus (?)
Story 4 - Djedi
The bull - Meskhetiu or Ursa Major

Hi Mark,
Stellarium is an excellent astronomical program and is free for Windows and Mac. I also use Sky Safari 6 Plus on my iPad however this is a paid app.
I have an alternative theory for dating Khufu’s pyramid which I’ve expressed in this post:
I get 2612 BCE or 2640 BCE as the date for commencement of Khufu’s pyramid. are you able to achieve a date with the solar skew explanati

Upon considering the evidence, I believe that the papyrus is pointing to a solar eclipse. As the eldest son of Ruddjedet is the rising sun and the eldest will point to the sanctuary of Thoth ie the moon. Across the presumed date range of 2725 BCE to 2577 BCE there are two possible dates that I have identified solar eclipses that are within +\- 4 days of the expected Sothic cycle date.

Thank you Hermione. I also found a reference to onions in "Death and Salvation in Ancient Egypt by JAN ASSMANN Translated from the German by DAVID LORTON" published by Cornell University 2005:

The following quote from Plutarch Moralia (refer: ) details the Egyptian priests dislike of onions.
Quote
Nothing that is irrational or fabulous or prompted by superstition, as some believe, has ever been given a place in their rites, but in them are some things that have moral and practical values, and others that are not without their share in the refinements of history or natural science, as,

The Westcar Papyrus is an ancient Egyptian papyrus thought to date to the Hyksos period (circa 18th to 16th century BCE). The collection of stories centres around the IVth Dynasty Pharaoh Khufu (aka Cheops) and a series of wonders or acts of magic performed by various priests. The stories have been given the title King Cheops and the magicians. In this paper, I review the stories within the Westc

Hi Alex,
Rawlins and Pickering in their paper here: discuss an alignment to Thuban based on prior work by Kate Spence. In their correction to Kate Spence's work, they find a date of 2638 BE +- 10 years. What makes Ursa Major (Meskhetyu) a better candidate for alignment than Thuban in your opinion?
Thanks,

Ossendrijver and Winkler have published a paper which analyses text found on Ostracon written in Demotic script and dated to circa 50 - 100 CE. In it, they find evidence of the Egyptian astronomers leveraging a Babylonian method to calculate the position of Mercury. A summary of their paper can be found here:
One of the things that fascinated me was that this demotic script contains the sy
