Although Robert Bauval has proposed that the Khufu pyramid Queen Chamber shafts were designed to target the bright stars Kochab and Sirius at the time the pyramids were built, here I will show that they were designed to target Kochab and the Sun at a different era. The problem with the Bauval alignments is their accuracy. Taking 2580 B.C. as the Khufu pyramid construction year we have an error for Kochab of 43 minutes of a degree, and for Sirius of 30 minutes of a degree.

This means these shafts don't seem to be designed to align to anything at 2580 BC. They were meant to align at a later date. But when?

My proposition is that the South shaft naturally represents the Sun. This is evident from the Giza causeways that align with the Equinoxes and the Midwinter positions. Therefore we can determine that the Queen Chamber shaft slope was intended to relate to the celebration of both Christmas and Theophany as practiced during the early Eastern Christians. To prove this we use the present celebration date based on the Julian calendar. Therefore we add 13 days to January 6 ending up with January 19.

But the North shaft aligns with circumpolar stars. This is the air shaft that will determine the epoch. As I will show below the correct alignment year, a year that aligns with the geometric culmination altitude of Kochab is that of the birth of Saint Spyridon. Saint Nickolas (Santa Claus for Western Christianity) was also born this year, but we know the date he was born(March 15). On the other hand the birth date of Saint Spyridon is not known.

As we can see in the next photos which use the Cartes du Ciel astronomy software(we are stationed at the Khufu pyramid apex coordinates), on January 19, 270 AD, the geometric culmination altitude of the Sun was 39° 37' 24.7". On the other hand the South Queen Chamber shaft slope as measured by Gantenbrink is 39° 36' 28". The error is only 0° 0' 57".

When, in 1453, Constantinople fell to the Ottomans, Spyridon's relics were removed again; this time, to the island of Corfu by a Corfiote monk called Kalohairetis, where they remain to this day, in Saint Spyridon Church.

Let's see the latitude of this church:

l = 39° 37' 30.31" North

Nice alignment with the slope of the Southern QC shaft.

On the other hand the geometric culmination altitude of the pole star of the time Kochab was 39° 07' 27.2". But the North Queen Chamber shaft slope as measured by Gantenbrink is 39° 07' 28". The error is practically zero at 0° 0' 0.8".

Now, why is the Queen Chamber niche on the East side of the chamber and to the South of the central axis? Not hard to figure it out.
