I'm used to dealing with this data ,it has been going on for years , it's simply the 21st C example of Ley Lines , joining dots up on a map ,the difference is that we now have GE .
You said the dates of the site are irrelevant .What do you mean cursory ?Of course it isn't , it was carefull chosen for it's straight qualities ,a better example of an indication couldn't be found , it's dead straight for over a mile and right dowwn the cente of the runway leads to the testes of the Cerne Abbas giant . No problems with a great circle or the "alignment" being off by a degree. "Cursory " makes no more sense than "declination of the Earth's axis " another bit of gobbleydook that hasn't been addressed .
To suggest that there was any intentionality of an alignment on behalf of the builders is nonsense ,just like all the other joined up bits ,with fantasy history of Phoenicians in Michigan and building Avebury .The runway was chosen simply because there could be no argument that it was intentional .If you want "alignments " from prehsitoric sites than they are much easier . Talking of which , you still haven't came up with a couple of sites of your own choosing that can be shown to be "aligned" in the same manner as all the other joiner uppers .
