No-one has explained why Khufu and Menkaure each have three large satellites, oriented at right angles, yet Khafre has one small one. Some invoke lack of space due to quarrying and the like - but why then did Khafre not follow the pattern of three satellites?

Thirty odd years ago I noticed that the positions of these satellites are sensibly aligned to the centre and corners of Khafre -



- Khufu at the angle of the double square, 26.5 degrees ; and Menkaure at 30 degrees. These are fundamental elements of plane geometry.


The position of Khafre may defined by two arcs from the NE corner of Khufu and the SW corner of Menkare forming a symmetrical arrangement -




Arcs from the centre of Khufu and NE corner of Menkaure also define Khafre -




In addition, Tedder noticed the diagonal of a square, formed by the axes and sides of Khufu and Menkaure, bisects Khafre -




When the sides of Khufu and Menkaure are extended down to Butler's reference datum, East side Khufu and South side of Menkaure are symmetrically disposed to Khafre.
Menkaure West - to Khafre centre - to Khufu East are related as 1 : root two -




These simple constructions combine to suggest that Khafre is a reference point for a definable positional relation between the two outer pyramids.
