Maybe the Egyptians you asked didn't have degrees, but apparently at least one guy who made the cubits did. It doesn't matter what they called it. They got the idea for the cubit from the Sumerians so I suppose they also got the 360 divisions circle from them while they were at it. Or they could simply have divided the earth into segments of the same number as the days in a year, because that's how far the positions of the stars move in relation to the sun.

Besides, it was just an idea I had. It seems like an unlikely coincidence but it could be so.
