Here we go again!

The top of the Grotto is approx. 624" below the top end of the Ascending Passage floor.
The Ascending Passage is only 679" high.
This means that the top of the Grotto is roughly 55" above the DP/AP intersection.
From the top of the Grotto to the floor of the hole is around 200"
I got the measurements from highly detailed, large scale copies of M & R's drawings of the Well Shaft and Ascending Passage (kindly e-mailed to me by a fellow MaaT poster/lurker).

I have next to me a copy of Tompkin's Secrets of the Great Pyramid Hardback 1973.
On pages 28, 246 and 247 are sketches that show quite clearly the Grotto close to the level of the DP/AP intersection.

Your diagram, Clive, is completely, utterly, totally, hopelessly wrong, and I really cannot see how you managed to get it so!

I find it hard to imagine a more ambiguous and unhelpful answer than this.

We can't all be right, but we could all be wrong ...
