... "The Papryus of Ani" dates probably from the XVIIIth Dynasty, about 1400BC and is the most richly illustrated of all known copies of the "Book of the Dead". It is of great length, measuring no less than 76 feet. Some of the Texts in it are of great antiquity, and had ceased to be intelligible even to the scribes of the time. A comparison of this with other copies shows not only the extreme corruption which the texts had undergone, but also the great carelessness of the copyists.
