The Rhind Mathematical Papyrus has been used by Egyptologists as evidence to suggest that the the AE understood the pi value of a circle's C/R no better than 3.16:1.
Using this same ancient document, problem #53 indicates the author being aware of the value to a much greater accuracy.
Unfortunately, history continues to repeat itself...we accept the "professional’s" theories as factual without delving deeper into the evidence.
