No, I didn't know that ... Presumably the idea was found to be unworkable for some reason.

I don't know of any evidence that the AE of the OK knew about:

(a) irrational pi to x number of decimal places; or
(b) the ratio 22/7 as pi

Finally, it is not possible to comment further on your findings in the GP as the description is at present unavailable.
