Fantastic news.
Its definitely a utilitarian looking space, remains me of the pent construction corridor inside Neferirkare pyramid. Here they seem to have have made a utilitarian construction corridor with pent beams to enable the workers to continue with the superstructure whilst internal construction continued. Then as they worked on the substructure from the inside out, they built the horizontal passage in fine limestone inside the construction corridor.
Clearly this case is not the same inside Khufu's, and its difficult to understand its function here, especially if its only some 10m long. Of course the corridor might extend further south, but was filled with masonry after it fulfilled its function, and thus the scans would not detect the rest of the corridor.
Given its level it would seem to intercept near the bottom of the grand gallery if it continued further south. Maybe it was a construction gap that could allow workers and material access, and at the same time double up as a weight relieving feature over the descending passage below. Maybe the void above the grand gallery is another pent beam construction to relieve weight from the grand gallery.
So many permutations and so little data, lets hope we don't have to wait too long before they enter this space and obtain more data.
