1) why they'd use a measurement from a culture that they had no real contact (and whose language they didn't know) with for just ONE project
2) why they'd encode a seldom used proportion instead of (say) the ruler's birthdate or his height
3) why they'd encode the year of a planet that they didn't track and had no cultural importance to them.

1) Since the Royal Cubit was first introduced at Saqqara, can we not infer that it was, in all probability, of a "foreign" origin and not a home spun design unless Imhotep decided this on his own.

2) The decision as to the length of The Royal Cubit and the why of it is still very much under debate.

3) The planet [Mars] was known by the ancient Egyptians as "Horus of the Horizon",[7] then later Her Deshur[8] (7) Gurshtein, Alex A. (1997). and then we have Mars possibly related to embalming:

The mummification process took seventy days. Special priests worked as embalmers, treating and wrapping the body. Beyond knowing the correct rituals and prayers to be performed at various stages, the priests also needed a detailed knowledge of human anatomy. The first step in the process was the removal of all internal parts that might decay rapidly. The brain was removed by carefully inserting special hooked instruments up through the nostrils in order to pull out bits of brain tissue. It was a delicate operation, one which could easily disfigure the face. The embalmers then removed the organs of the abdomen and chest through a cut usually made on the left side of the abdomen. They left only the heart in place, believing it to be the center of a person's being and intelligence. In later mummies, the organs were treated, wrapped, and replaced within the body. Even so, unused canopic jars continued to be part of the burial ritual.

I believe that the 70 days is relative to how many days Mars is visible (or not visible) in the night sky but could not find an article that explains this so all in all Mars was indeed a part of Ancient Egypt.
