14 years ago, there was a substantive discussion on the 25th dynasty.
Unfortunately it was mired in pseudo-academic Afrocentric rhetoric and snobby Western pedantry.
There was, nonetheless, some really compelling dialogue on Taharqa’s journey from Napata to Lower Egypt.
He “restored” installations that had fallen into disrepair during Ptolemaic times.
Here’s what I would like a refresher on.
1. Ritualistic restoration:- What was accomplished, according to
Taharqa’s scribes?
2. Ptolemaic expatriates: What was Egypt like during the last days of Ptolemaic rule? Was there a mass exodus?
How long did Ptolemaic colonies remain viable?
3. Societal transformation: As we can appreciate how Thothmosid dynasty embraced cultural influences of the Middle Kingdom,
Taharqa’s brief reign embraced the cultural attributes of 18th dynasty.
The Thothmosids were scourging the relevance of that wretched second intermediate period.
The Napata dynasty was doing much of the same to the Ptolemaic era.
What was happening in the sepats during this time? Is there historical record of reunions,
Or remediated heredity stations returned from foreign occupiers?
4. Ptolemaic population centers: As far as I understand, Ptolemaic colonizers constructed their own
city states and basically existed in bubbles where their languages and customs were the norm. They pilfered Egyptian monuments
to build their cities. Did Taharqa dismantle any Ptolemaic structures?
Please- I have exactly no interest in Afrocentric babble, nor Eurocentric conceit. Just facts without racialism.
...Routine and prejudice distort vision.
Each man thinks his own horizon is the limit of the world.
