I personally believe zep tepi was an event as suggested by the Pyramid Texts but Bauval's thesis that it was a time period or a reminder of some event or condition seems highly implausible. That they would so carefully, meticulously, and accurately record anything at all and then not make it clear what was being remembered seems unlikely. Sure there might be all sorts of things we don't know about such a thing or its potential impact on us but anything of such great importance MUST HAVE BEEN RECORDED in their oral history and MUST HAVE BEEN written down when writing was invented. Instead we have nothing in terms of history from ancient Egypt from before 2000 BC and not even a record from after 2000 BC of exactly what "zep tepi" was.

This would lead one to believe we have it all wrong, zep tepi was not important in fact, or zep tepi was not an event or condition at all but merely a part of religion and magic as early writings suggest. Obviously the "sky was never ripped from the earth" in modern terms so either this is superstition or we misinterpret the words. There's really little in between,

Modern people simply translate and interpret all the terms in such way as we can relate to it. But there is still common sense, logic, and "laws of nature" that necessarily apply to the ancients. We can interpret anything in any way we choose but good hypotheses must "hang together" and I don't believe this applies to this hypothesis about "zep tepi". It's entirely possible the "oct theory" is correct but it's improbable that this represents the time that "nun saw the birth of atum through the eye of horus".
