Perhaps I addressed that clumsily - what I was trying to convey was that in a culture that has developed beyond the methods of orality into writing there is the opportunity to simply write down data to transmit, preserve or memorialise it. Not that they should abandon their mythology altogether. The notation of astronomical data on an ostracon is noted in the following paper which relates to observations of the planet Mercury in a later era:
