Graham: “The pole with the semicircular bend midway is shown in Seti I ceiling of the two skies. It was clearly associated there with the Ursa Major and the circumpolar stars. Do you think this is the same as those you cited ?
I was aware of the bend in the horizontal ‘rope’ or ‘platform’ that Meskhetiu is standing on as possibly connected to the bend in the vertical rod(s), and apart from a possible ‘mooring post’ connection, is the only detail I have found that might be connected to the feline with the vertical bent poles.
The identity of the recumbent lioness with three bent poles on her back, and later with one bent pole is a mystery that I have been unable to solve, so I was hoping your theory on the purpose of the shafts might shed some light on this enigmatic feline.
The oldest representation of the northern sky is Senmut’s that has a hawk-headed man (An) holding a long straight pole that appears to be prodding Meskhetiu (Big Dipper/Plough).
On Seti’s ceiling, An seems to be holding onto a rope on the end of a horizontal ‘rope’ or ‘platform’ with a bend in the middle on which Meskhetiu is standing. A figure of a man has his left hand pointing up into the bend.
The meaning of this astronomical scene is beyond me, and the only detail that may relate to the recumbent lioness with 1 or 3 bent poles on her back is the bend in the horizontal ‘rope’ or ‘platform’, but it seems far removed from the vertical bent rod or rods on the lioness.
Graham: “Regarding the orientation of the three pyramids at Giza, I note your figure of 52.15 degrees.
I had corrected Petrie's data for true north.
Anyway, let us say it is between 52.0 and 52.5 degrees.”
Petrie gave the positions of the three large pyramids relative to each other, and in his calculations I assumed he took into account the coordinates of his station marks that are west of true north by 1 deg.12’ 22”, and relative to his coordinate system that is parallel to the mean azimuth of G1 and G2 that is 5’ west of true north.
As I understand it, the relative position of G1 from G3 is therefore 51.15 degs north of east of G3 when facing north. Djedefra’s pyramid is 51.15 degs north-west of G3 - a mirrored angle.
I tried determining the angle from G3 to G1 using Google Earth, and the best I could achieve is about 52.20…52.27 degs which is quite close to what I assume is Petrie’s 52.15 degs north of east angle (G3 to G1)
Graham: “In the above post, I have shown the Kocab/Mizar line as being at 90 degrees at culmination.
But this only happened in one decade.”
Kocab / Mizar were in vertical alignment c.2467 with Thuban about 1 deg 48’ west of the vertical alignment. Orion was just appearing over the south-east horizon with 3 of the 7 stars visible. The alignment seems to have occurred too late to have a connection with Khufu.
