Greetings,
I recently came across this scene on the Bas-relief in the mortuary temple of Ramesses III in Wikipedia's entry for the KM hieroglyph (I6):
[
en.wikipedia.org]
According to the accompanying entry, the interpretation of the row bearing the km hieroglyph is 'black cow', and I can discern that the interpretation of the row bearing the mace hieroglyph (T3) is 'white cow'. But I'm not sure how to interpret the rows bearing the hide (T28), mace (T4), or the black ibis (?)(G28?). So, I was hoping that someone here could interpret these for me.
In addition, I couldn't help but wonder why the artist would have used hieroglyphs, seemingly oxymoronically, to identify one brown cow as black, and one brown cow as white, rather than painting them black and white, respectively. Nor could I help but wonder why the artist seemingly used T28, the determinative for animals, seemingly tautologically, to apparently identify that cow as an animal?
Thanks very much in advance for any insight anyone can give me on these things.
Regards,
Bill
