Jammer,
I would like to add a bit more regarding the Aha label; from what I gather the recovery of these labels in Abydos tombs were once attached to grave goods presented to the dead king for his afterlife in pictograph form. Again, my un-trained mind reads them with liberties that an expert might cringe at...
The upper register (right to left) tells us in pictures that the goods offered come from the combined stores of a unified Egypt (first structure) and are deposited in the tomb (serek) of king Aha for him to take into his afterlife bark (or the holy afterlife bark) through and to the sacred eye where Aha becomes Horus the elder.
The second register (right to left) tells us in pictures that all of the goods were made or are the products of holy (pure) origin overseen by the priests of a certain temple. Next we see two people preparing a mixture (beer?); above this we see the number of containers being prepared, perhaps this label was attached to one of them. The last portion of the register shows all the other goods these libations are being added to for the king's journey.
The third register (right to left) we see four priests holding their hands over their hearts in honor facing a very large lion (Aker? sekmet?) which in my mind refers to the earliest form of the Sphinx, this depiction in my view shows clearly that the lion figure represents the icon of the royal afterlife, the emblems behind the lion represent its nature of being in a place that ascension occurs (steps) under the guide of sacred measure (rope [i.e. maat]) overseen/recognized by Horus, the great god in heaven.
In short hand;
These goods are from the combined lands of Egypt and are placed in the tomb of Aha expressly for king Aha to take with him when he becomes Horus Aha the elder, they have been prepared under the strict codes of the priests of temple (...) and number (...) and are added to the many other goods gathered in his tomb. All of these goods are recognized and protected by 'Aker' at the gate (entrance) to the place of ascension and are great and divine like Horus.
When you finish laughing at my interpretation please do comment...
