Jon:
I’m probably asking too much, but to get an overall picture of the III and IV dynasty’s efforts I have attempted to plot the location of all major pyramids built during this era.
I have the following on my list:
Pyramid name and measures form Google (lat-long)
Djoser Step pyramid..............29.871 - 31.216
Khafre’s pyramid (G2)............29.976 - 31.131*
North (Red) pyramid.............29.809 - 31.206*
Bent Pyramid.....................29.791 - 31.210*
Khaba Layer pyramid..............29.933 - 31.161
Nebkare’s unfinished pyramid.....29.940 - 31.152
Djedefre’s unfinished pyramid....30.032 - 31.075
Huni’s pyramid...................29.388 - 31.157
Note: The measures are taken with respect to the “estimated” location of the pyramid’s center, a measure you will be unable to record. Therefore I suggest taking as many as possible from the center location of their north or south base, as long as it’s the same side for all..
* Precision for these three is important; it is required to confirm the accuracy of Google’s overall mapping of the plateau. It would be better if Huni’s pyramid were also on your list…but alas…!
I believe another important measure for all who show interest in the Giza site would be the proximity of the Sphinx with respect to any of the Giza three.
For this, I would suggest you choosing a logical location of the Sphinx’ body; paws, hind, etc for the first point and the center of the north base of G3 for the second. This base has never been moved or tampered with, it is exactly as first prepared.
A personal request:
There are two cavities dug into the rock where G2a was located; one entrance faces toward north, the other toward east. Is it possible to shoot a photo of each, the surrounding area, along with their GPS?
I realize the above being a tall order, but your work will definitely be recognized; also it will provide an excellent reference source for all who enjoy the mysteries of Giza.
Best on your trip, have fun.
