in the book "Temples of Ancient Egypt" edited by Byron Shafer( one easily found at a Discount price) there is a section by Arnold entitled "Royal Cult Complexes of the Old and Middle Kingdoms"

start of the first Paragraph of the Conclusion at the end of the dissertation..

"The developement of royal cult complexes through the Old and Middle Kingdoms shows religious architecture's complexity in form and function. These temples sought to deal with the Primordial problem of the king's death,......"

and the very end of same..

"......Overpowering monumentality demonstratedthe Egyptian ruler's capacity to create everlastingly secure bastions against the eternal threat of disorder, rebellion,and decay."

reading Arnold and Ann Macy Roth is to me compulsory for understanding....
