Member III stratem granite was the strongest on the plateau, perfectly suited for G1, perhaps such stone existed at or near that level and was quarried to level the natural elevation that once stood under the pyramid. Theoretically it would be hard to imagine that the "hill" or "outcrop" of the plateau was not altered to accept the structure. There are many ways in which they could have raised heavy stone, here's an example:
