The other AE dog may be the Basenji, the tough little warriors found all over Africa today. These dogs are small, have tightly curled tails, wrinkled brows and clean themselves like a cat. And they don't bark--instead they yodel.
My sister had some and we had one. They are seriously tough, strong-willed little devils. They will fight anyone & anything --even leopards.
The big, prick-eared sighthounds like the Pharaoh Hound & Ibizan can be a challenge to train. You have to understand how they think. Pharaoh Hounds actually blush.
There is a group in Jordan that still does traditional hunts with falcons, horses & salukis. They go out near Petra where there is game & little interference.
Traditionally you don't sell Salukis or Basenjis--they may be gifts or prizes in war. I don't know how far back that tradition extends; it's Arab at least and possibly quite a bit older.
