Since Phi is the divine ratio BECAUSE it is so universally eye-appealing and the AE we nothing if not artistically pleasing in everything they tried isn't it more likely their constructions that met the divine ratio did so well before the ratio was understood?

In effect, met the eye-appealing part and in fact helped define over the ages the divine ratio as opposed to "following it”?
