I think the best way to understand this is to view South as being "Up River" and North as being "Down River", as that's the direction the Nile flows. You do have to look South to see Orion, but I don't think that means the AEs exclusively viewed the heavens from that perspective. FWIW, I think the four faces of a pyramid represent the quarter of the sky they are facing. i.e. they each represent the Heavens as a whole, so making an individual pyramid representig an individual star would have been a very strange idea to the AEs
