Well, not exactly hobbyists. I know many professionals that given the chance to make a personal project, they end up doing this kind of things. If you see, they use only close ups to show the fossil details, a more convinving shot would be a walk around the object. To compose computer imagery on moving sequences is much more difficult than to do it on still shots, and if the digital texturing and lighting is not very well done then it's easier to spot the errors. Here they use more still shots to composite the "fossil" with the video. That's much easier, especially if the fossil (probably a 3d mesh) is seen from far away (the background of the reporter)

I cannot trust a video so easily these days. smiling smiley
