Indeed. Usually by people who exploit the common lack of understanding of what they represent, like this example:

That is sheer misrepresentation: statistics "prove" nothing and nowhere did Thom pretend that they did. If you wish to argue otherwise, please quote, non-selectively, Thom's statistical analysis.
