Of course it is still the "survival of the fittest", the basic laws of nature haven't changed...

Evolution in action indeed, but I sill don't understand why so many people work so hard to feed the paraites!? But then again, ants and bees do the same exact thing!!!

However, the degeneration aspect is still very clear since like you say, "one sector of the population works hard and brings in the bacon, the other sector, with little effort on its own part, feeds off of this effort and reproduces at a greater rate"...
