I live near this area (actually lived in Laguna Canyon when I was a tot), and this is not a great shock. We've had record setting rain in Southern Cal this year - more than any in history. The ground gets saturated and hillsides slip. This is a community almost entirely build on hills along the coastline, no flat land to speak of. Fire & mudslides take a pretty regular bite. Hiding
