Yes, I also read and hear about these stories. Note however that human species still has survived for a very long time before western civilization! Also, all animal species are dying every day as part of their natural life cycles and some are being killed for food as part of the natural food chain...
This is all part of survival and natural selection. Western civilization is not going to suddenly (within the last 200 or so years!) change the food chain rules of nature that have been going on and on for millions of years!

I don't know!? Do you have any stats for that?

Well, many times I do question that when looking at western civilization's rat race!!!
Also, I am not exactly sure what is the extension of physical life really accomplishing? Like, for example, western medicine is now capable of keeping someone physical alive in a comma or vegetative state for a very long time, but why?

Then you do have direct and clear evidence of the results of western medicine which is a great thing. But, generalizing that may not be completely accurate...

Since I see birth and death as a transition from one energy state to another, I would probably choose the miracle vs. science or maybe I would choose science as
the miracle...But then again, I may choose neither and just go with the flow...
To me, this would be a very subjective thing, if I have the choice. However, note that most don't have the choice. It just happens at the time of transition...
