Hydrogen Sulfide also has the characteristic of desensitizing human sense of smell at concentrations above 150ppm. This makes it dangerous because H2S is extremely poisonous. Many people have been killed by H2S in crude oil and natural gas and some farmers have been killed by the gas collecting in manure pits. It tends to settle in low spots because it is heaver than air.
