By focusing your consciousness into that specific space and then going into a trance, is indeed how self-hypnosis is accomplished...

The key is to get away and escape from the collective cognitive imperative or alternatively, to use that collective cognitive imperative to help one focus into that personal space...Sometimes a third party conductor (person of authority) like a doctor or teacher (master) can help a lot with that process...
