They already have the script. That was the plot of David Brin's "Earth". Terrorists in Brazil managed to cut the power to the magnetic field that contained the 'singularity' and it started burrowing in a spiral toward the center of the earth. First they had to build a device to detect its location and then they had to build masers to nudge it back out of the earth. They were initially confused when they started tracking it because there was another already there. It traced back to Tunguska from 1908!
