I really don't see what the fuss is about. It's like rocking ones pram over whether a large lump of lithic matter chould be called a rock or a boulder. What we choose to call it has exactly zero effect on what it actually is. Is it a planet? Given the heliocentric definition of a planet being a body that orbits a star, then it's a planet. Is it a KBO? Probably. Is it a "major" planet? Depends how you define "major". (And so on, ad infinitum....)
