Probably most of you won't know who Mr. Nakai was but he was a beloved former chairman of the Navajo Nation. Mr. Nakai was a leader for the tribes in education as well as religious freedom among many other things. His works did not just inspire the Navajo tribe but many other tribes across the nation. Mr. Nakai was responsible for the creation of the first tribal college where he not only did the fundraising himself but responded to the BIA's lack of support by saying: "We're not asking for your permission, we're telling you what we're going to do". He was given his last rights on Saturday and passed away from pneumonia Sunday evening.

Unfortunately, the local news website is on a delay, possibly made worse due to the recent flooding, so I don't have a local article to offer but this is what azcentral is running:
