After the recent death of the pope, a rabbi on Larry King's show said that he considered the pope to have been one of the 36 righteous individuals who are always on earth at any time to keep things running right...I'm tempted to say in ma'at. smiling smiley He said this is a Jewish traditional belief. The 36 people can be anyone God chooses; they do not have to be clergy, etc. Does anyone know more this tradition, and especially why it is 36 individuals? Has anyone heard of this before? I hadn't.
