Hi Prema
I'm with John in pic's of the new discoveries... could you let me know if the seashore temple survived the tsunami alright... its a beautiful structure and I hope its still there for future generations.
Since you can't dive here is what to do to see the undersea ruins. Where the seashore temple juts out in to the ocean stand looking directly out to see. You'll see a patch of surf about 1km out (maybe less). Thats the first of the major ruins out there (I dived that one too), but the whole area is covered ... the patches of surf are just the tall ones.
If you are feeling brave, hire a boat (one of the fishermen might take you?) to take you out to that one directly ahead of the seashore temple. Depending on the tide you 'should' see a large structure just beneath the surface which the waves literally break over. Remember when I got back I said we could see some of the obviously manmade structures from the surface (which i got panned for saying by certain people), well thats exhibit A, and I think you might find it interesting to see that.
I probably wouldn't recomend snorkling for several reasons, firstly visablilty is poor, there is a lot of surge, and its not comfortable being in the water with all the boats having those rather lethal looking outboard motors, oh also there are a lot of nasty jellyfish (can't remember the species but they aren't nice).
OOoooops! That last section is off shore! Sorry
Enjoy your journey... I'm jellous I haven't had a holiday in ages and am not going to get one till my honeymoon later this year!
Take care and safe journeys
Mike
