We have robins , here , in eastern Canada from the end of march until early december when their main food supply : worms are getting hard to get because of the frozen ground . To tell you frankly I ' ve never seen a robin near a bird feeder , we have three on our lot . They are mostly in small groups early in the morning and in the evening on the lawn looking for signs of a worm peeking in the grass ; they ' ll pull it carefully out and swallow it whole or cut it into pieces if it 's too big . They ' ll be the first migratory bird to come back in early spring announcing the oficial end of winter .
