Captain Bob Bartlett and Kataktovik walked 700 miles from Wrangel Island to the cost of Siberia on the ice pack, and along the coast during March and April in fierce winter conditions to arrange for the rescue of the survivors of his ship. Not to mention the 80 miles the ship's crew walked across the ice from the sinking of the ship to Wrangel.
