What I miss watching in particular are documentaries. I remember back in the 70s and 80s, when PBS had proper funding. I could watch excellent, thought-provoking presentations on topics in the sciences, archaeology, current events and the arts, with no multiple repeats of cute CGI sequences which added little to the message or content. That has all disappeared.

I'm sticking mostly to the HIFI channel now: movies, short documentaries on musical instruments as well as interviews with musicians, and concerts. During the week, there's "Later... with Jools Holland", which some of the Brits on this board may be familiar with. It's an eclectic mix of five live bands, each of whom has their own musical style, going from punk to jazz to African, etc. Quite interesting. Well, perhaps for me, since I play several musical instruments.
