On the righthand side of this page there are links, i.e.
Process and Intent, Clothing Donations, Mourning Mississippi,
Ragged Hymnal, Highway 90 Debris Field, JR on Route 90,
My Mom's Bedroom, and many other powerful pictures.

Some of these:

I was down in St. Bernard Parish with some friends helping
them look through what remains of their house. Except for
a box of jewerly, which fortunately did not get dumped and
lost in the obscene mud that covers everything, nothing
else could be salvaged. The whole parish, like many other
parts of the Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and East
Texas Gulf Coast is completely gone.

(For an example, go see "Mississippi town feels forgotten
in recovery" CNN news, Sept. 20, 2005, [edition.cnn.com]).

The only saving grace is that their house was one of the
7,000 houses, out of 29,000 houses in St. Bernard Parish,
which had flood insurance. As result, unlike many other
people at least the money that they borrowed to pay for
their house will be paid off. God knows what the people
without flood insurance will do as not only was their
house compeletly destroyed, but they still have to pay
off the money, the morgage, which they borrowed to buy
for it. Not only is everthing gone, but these people will
be debt for long time for houses, which no longer exist.

It is all so indescribably heartbreaking and there is
not much, which can be done about it.

Yours,

Paul H.
