Plenty of time yet. There have been hints about the "war" which will probably form the basis of the main story arc. After such a hiatus it's like starting from scratch and will need some time to get into it's groove. There's also the issue of introducing the character of The Doctor to a new audience, which has to be done gently so people aren't overwhelmed with all his weird baggage (no, not a reference to Billie Piper
)
I'm quite glad it's not too much up it's own backside though by not being overly serious. If not clever and classy yet, it's at least entertaining hokum. Dare I say - 'Ealing Studios version of Star Trek'?

I, too, was pleasantly surprised, after my initial reaction to discovering that Piper was to be the companion (my intial reaction being along the lines of "Oh my god it's Bonnie bloody Langford all over again!!!").
