The license fee is like any tax - you pay it even if you don't benefit directly. I pay tax for roads (I don't drive), defence (I've never been invaded) the police (I haven't called them in years), the Department of Trade and Industry (I don't own or work for a company). I also pay tax to support a theatre, ballet and opera industry that cannot sustain itself and for lots of museums I will never go into.
While I'm not particularly enamoured of the BBC's terrestrial output at the moment the fact that we have a non-state controlled, commercial free broadcasting service is something we should fight to protect.
Anyway, it's either that or ITV's perennial output of Corrie, Millionairre and aimed-squarely-at-the-female-demographic melodrama.
