But they didn't really die. It was that old camera cut and switch from one doorway to another. I didn't really notice that the doors were different until I watched the episode with commentary.

It's funny because for a whole year I had thought that Ellie and Maisie had been blown up by the IRA bomb, but it turns out that that bomb was a dud and that the real bombing killed a minister in another part of London.

The last episode of series two also has an assassination of the top chief of the British armed services, but the reason for that killing is very unclear. So far, the only motive I can discern is Joyce's pathetic need to set up Tom for it. Of course, it's a cliffhanger, so I have to wait another whole effing year to find out how it all gets resolved. But, with this show, I can be very very patient. It's that good.
