I hear you! That's why it really helps to see it on dvd, where the interviews explain how the scene was shot.

In series two, the second episode was absolutely excruciating.. the one with the Algerian agent trying to talk the Birmingham Muslim teenager out of bombing the playground. It's a marvelous, fantastically written episode, but a true heartbreaker.
