Here was a clue that sort of stumped me. I mean, I did think of the answer but dismissed it because I couldn't relate it to the clue. Now that I know it -is- the answer, I can sort of see why it is the answer but not completely. Can anyone help?

Clue: Chap will cut with raised pulse

Answer: Lentils

Ok I see the name Len as the chap, and -tils- is slit spelled backwards for cut. But where's the definition?
