Well ... when Thom and Merrett were investigating Scandinavian stone circles in the early 1980s, most of the Norwegian ones, at any rate, were dated to between 400-600 AD (114), so Late Iron Age - although, in some cases, no one could really say. Whether any progress has been made on the Scandinavian-megalithic-monument-dating-question in the past 25 years, I don't know.

I think that many people would be happy to fall in with this view, and the dismiss the entire question as nothing more than one of those strange coincidences that does turn up from time to time ... were it not for the anomaly of the Thoms' inferred units actually forming a root 3 triangle; and the fact that similar triangle-based ratios were to be found throughout mediaeval Europe. This does make one stop and think, at least ... even if it seems difficult to come to any conclusion.
