Note that the return to the moon by 2020 was canceled, the shuttle was canceled... so Nasa & Lockheed are closing down shuttle related jobs... Which, btw, allows Nasa (and lockheed to a degree) to meet RIF targets (Reduction In Force) that were mandated...
Regardless, Somehow i suspect there won't be an issue in another 5 years... but in 15-20, we're looking at an all new Space Race w/ China and/or India if they can maintain their growth pace.
Ack I seem to be on an icy slope with an ugly tar pit at the bottom marked 'politics' so I'll drop that line of thought and quote myself from above re: the plan for mars...
