There is no truth to the 2012 theories.

The ancient Mayans were pretty poor forecasters; they did not foresee the drought that caused their civilization to collapse. Had they survived until today with their religion and philosophy unchanged, they would be busy carving a new calendar. They had no notion of "polar shifts" or "consciousness shifts"... although they did have a good estimate of when the dust cloud girdling the center of our galaxy would line up with the rising sun.
