Its not a simple answer really, there will always be some of course who completely ignore anything you say, and as Thadd pointed out the danger of your comments being cut is a concern. I think I'd address that to the researcher who contacted you.
Myself, I'd do it in the hope that someone out there who is a fence sitter falls the right way or that you might encourage someone to do research of their own.
