<HTML>Teaching people skills for skeptical thinking is incorrect? How can people evaluate different ideas critically if (a) they don't have the required background knowledge) and (b) don't have the skills to do so. Hardly many laypeople have the level of critical analysis skills as a graduate student or professor in a specific target area.

Also, why shouldn't youngsters be taught critical thinking, why should it be left to universities (which a good portion of the population don't attend anyways in, e.g., America, and where, again in America, there is a strong creationist movement in schools and universities attempting to hinder scientific teaching).

Why shouldn't an independent organisation take on the extra role of helping to extend criticial thinking analysis to the general public and around the world.

What is it about skeptical, critical thinking which threatens people.
